Miami Street Medicine is a non-profit organization that is committed to providing free healthcare services to the homeless population of Miami-Dade County. Our work is carried out under the umbrella of The Dade County Street Response (DCSR), which focuses on serving individuals who are affected by poverty and oppression in the county.
In 2018, Dr. Armen Henderson established the Dade County Street Response Disaster Relief Team to prepare and respond to disasters in low-income areas. As the Disaster Relief Team operated during the COVID-19 pandemic, DCSR partnered with Miami Street Medicine (MSM) clinic, founded by Dr. Dan Bergholz in 2018, to provide healthcare services directly to people living on the streets throughout the year.
Since then, DCSR has expanded its services by opening a free urgent care clinic named Doctors Within Borders. Additionally, DCSR has opened its programming to educate medical professionals at UM/Jackson about the unique needs and circumstances of our patients. Our programs all work together in deep coalition and have remained committed to serving our community and improving the lives of our patients.

OUR WORK
Even with available free clinics and traditional points of entry to hospital care, many barriers to healthcare remain for unsheltered individuals. To overcome these barriers, we must reach out to our community. The Miami Street Medicine (MSM) clinic meets our neighbors on the street on their own terms. We offer home care to build trust, bridge gaps between existing healthcare services, transition patients into housing & a primary-care relationship, educate & counsel, and deliver other high-quality healthcare services free of charge. Additionally, we know not to underestimate the quiet healing potential of simply acknowledging a person’s humanity, empathetic listening, and collaborative service outreach.
